My Summer at Oregon

I took a part in a workshop at the University of Oregon for 4 weeks over the summer of 2017. It was a credited class with lectures from Professor Jim Givens, from the U of Oregon. Our main project was to study rooftop garden designs and design one for the PNCA, an art school in Portland, Oregon. In our design, , we had to incorporate 2 elevator shafts and 2 pavilions of provided measurements. In this workshop, we covered precedent studies, sketching and model building our creation.

Final Model

This is a perspective view of our final model construct. Our idea was based on the Ira Keller fountains in Portland, Oregon, Venice and the Serpentine Gardens. We had to take in account the weather of Oregon (rainy!) and the sun's path.

Plan

This is a picture of the plan for our design. It was drawn and sketched multiple times and cleaned up in photoshop.

Section

This is a sectional view of our design, showing in color the different surfaces around rooftop garden. Ours was unique in the sense that our garden idea was based on water.

Pavilion #1

Model of the one of the pavilions I designed. This particular one is on the west side, taking into account the angle of the sun sets. We keep it open and the windows aligned so one could see through all of them across. A visual perspective is shown elsewhere.

Pavilion #2

This is the second pavilion I designed on the east side of our garden. It was challenging to keep the design a little more closed than the other pavilion,  in order to account for the rainy days in Oregon, while still keeping it accordance with the rest of our design.
